Overview

NetPrint allows you to print to specific MSU printers from anywhere in the world (when connected directly to the MSU Network or through MSU SSL VPN) using the Line Printer Daemon (LPD). In order to use this service, steps must be taken to set up your computer to communicate with this protocol.

Instructions for MacOS X 10.3 and above(10.3.x Panther, 10.4.x Tiger, 10.5.x Leopard, and 10.6.x Snow Leopard) are listed below.

Once you have initially configured your computer to use NetPrint, you can skip to step 4 below ("Print to MSU Netprint Printer") for instructions on how to print to the MSU Netprint printer you've set up.

NOTE: screenshots below are taken from MacOS X 10.5.1 Leopard; however, previous MacOS X versions 10.3 and greater should have similar setup options for NetPrint. Instructions are included where the options differ.

Print to MSU Netprint printer

  1. Print your desired pages, selecting MSU Netprint as your printer (if you set MSU Netprint as your default printer above, it is already selected for you when you print)
  2. In your web browser, log into netprint.msu.edu with your MSUNet ID and password
  3. Select the desired building and printer, then click Print next to the document you wish to print. You may need to purchase e-tokens if you do not have any.
Important Note: You must log into netprint.msu.edu within 15 minutes of sending the print job, to associate the print with your NetID. Failure to do this will result in the print being lost. Once it is associated, you can then select the appropriate printer from which to print.

Note: An E-token(s) is required for each printed side. A double-sided page with printing on the front and back requires twice the e-tokens as a single printed side.

Off-campus printing

Currently, Netprint will only work for users who are on-campus or using the MSU SSL VPN. Users who are off-campus, and do not have access to MSU SSL VPN will not be allow to print to the NetPrint printers.
