Overview
NetPrint allows you to print to specific MSU printers from anywhere in the world (when connected directly to the MSU Network or through MSU SSL VPN) using the Line Printer Daemon (LPD). In order to use this service, steps must be taken to set up your computer to communicate with this protocol.Instructions for Windows Vista are shown below.
Once you have initially configured your computer to use NetPrint, you can skip to the instructions below on how to print to the MSU Netprint printer you've set up.
Setup for Windows Vista - Step 1
- Go to the Start Menu
- Select Control Panel
- Select Programs and Features
- Select Turn Windows features on or off
- Under Print Services check the LPR Port Monitor

- Go back to the Control Panel
- Select Printers
- Select Add a Printer

Select Add a local printer

- Select Create a new port
- Choose LPR Port
- Click Next

- Enter "netprint.msu.edu" as the name or address of the server
- enter "PrintLocker" as the name of the queue

- Select the HP Laser Jet 8100 Series PCL6
- Click Next

- Enter "Netprint" as the name of the printer.
- Click Next
Print to MSU Netprint printer
- Print your desired pages, selecting MSU Netprint as your printer
- In your web browser, log into netprint.msu.edu with your MSUNet ID and password
- Select the desired building and printer, then click Print next to the document you wish to print. You may need to purchase e-tokens if you do not have any.
Note: An E-token(s) is required for each printed side. A double-sided page with printing on the front and back requires twice the e-tokens as a single printed side.
