Overview

MSU's DHCP registration provides registration and management functions for computers attached to the MSU campus computer network via direct Ethernet attachment.

You must register your computer to use it on the network at Michigan State University. To register your computer, you will need to login with a valid MSU NetID, provide your name and a description of your computer, and acknowledge that you will use your computer in an acceptable manner on the MSU network.

MSU DHCP Login

Making sure that your computer is connected to a working ethernet jack, open your browser and type in http://dhcp.msu.edu, enter your MSU NetID and password then click Login.

DHCP Main Menu

The DHCP Main Menu page will appear. Click Register your computer.

Register Your Computer

The Register Your Computer page will appear. Fill out the form with your information then click Register Now.

Registration Complete

The Registration Complete page will appear. At this point, the configuration and registration process is complete. IMPORTANT: Reboot your computer after this step. Doing so will let your computer obtain a new IP address that will allow you full internet access. To test your connection after rebooting, connect to any off-campus internet site; for instance, this would be a good time for Windows users to connect to Windows Updates (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/).

Please note: No further steps are necessary if you intend to continue to connect using the ethernet cable and jack. Those also using a wireless router must take additional steps to avoid problems. Refer to Setting up your own wireless router - TB8884.
