MAIL.MSU.EDU: General information - TB469

This item provides information on these topics:

Overview

Mail.msu.edu is the centrally funded and supported email service for Michigan State University. Current faculty, staff, and students receive a free MSU NetID and email account.

On December 22, 2008, the service was substantially upgraded. Refer to TB10900 for more information and a list of support articles.

This article provides general information regarding the central email system.

Using mail.msu.edu

The mail.msu.edu system supports common methods for downloading incoming mail: POP (Post Office Protocol) and IMAP using an SSL (secure) connection. Some older e-mail clients, however, do not support SSL properly and are not compatible with mail.msu.edu.

  1. Point your browser to mail.msu.edu to log in to and use the central e-mail service via our web-based interface.
  2. Verify your client (i.e. Eudora, Outlook) compatibility
  3. Configure your e-mail client (i.e. Eudora, Outlook)
  4. Start using your e-mail or login to the web client at http://mail.msu.edu
  5. Changing your password

Note: Since Qualcomm (original manufacturer) no longer supports the Eudora e-mail client, the ATS Help Desk is unable to provide direct support for that product.
