Overview

Your MSU NetID is the key to online access at MSU. Having a NetID allows you to access various electronic services at MSU and utilize your MSU e-mail and AFS space. MSU NetID's are automatically generated for all current MSU faculty, staff, students and retirees. Additional NetID's and related services may be purchased using a university account number.

Information on how to obtain your PIN to activate your MSU NetID and other services related to your MSU NetID are provided below.

Request my PIN (Lost PIN or New PIN)

Note on NetID services for surviving spouses of MSU Faculty/Staff/Retirees

Access to NetID services (dialup, email, etc) for surviving spouses of MSU Faculty/Staff is dependent on whether the Faculty/Staff was vested with the University, as determined by MSU Human Resources (a Retiree is vested by definition). Surviving spouses should contact Human Resources at 517-353-3720 to verify their eligibility for spousal benefits, which includes most NetID services. Once this is verified, the surviving spouse should submit a PIN request as listed under "Request my PIN" above; this will in turn be used to establish a new NetID for that surviving spouse.

Activate my NetID

MSU faculty, staff, and students should activate their MSU NetID and e-mail account even if they already have another e-mail account. In order to activate your account you will need your PIN (see "Request my PIN" section above)

Change my password

To change your known password, you need only know your current password and NetID and click on the change my password link at http://netid.msu.edu. Additional information and detailed instructions are available here.

Note: Your MSU NetID is used to authenticate numerous services such as dial-up, Stu-Info, etc. Be sure you change any saved passwords to reflect the new password. Dial-up users, for instance, will need to both change their log-in password for the dial-up connection, and within their mail client.

Forgot my password

In order to reset your MSU NetID password, you will need two pieces of information:
  • Your ID number (Either your A-PID, Z-PID, SSN, or EX-Number).
  • The corresponding 4-digit PIN/PAN
If you have already received both of these pieces of information, click here for more information on resetting your password.

To request your ID and PIN information, please select the appropriate link from the "Request my PIN" section above.

Change my NetID

If your name has been legally changed you may change your MSU NetID for no charge. For all other NetID changes, a $10 change fee will apply. This change is processed by filling out an MSU NetID Change form.

Once this form has processed and you have received confirmation of the change, please refer to Techbase article 4203 for further assistance with the change.

To change the way your name displays in mail.msu.edu (but not the NetID itself), refer to TB11332.

Delete my MSU NetID

If you have graduated or purchased an MSU NetID and wish to have it deleted you may do so by filling out an Add, Remove or Delete NetID Services Form.

Current MSU Faculty, Staff, and Students are not allowed to delete their official MSU NetID.

Increase or Decrease AFS/Web or e-mail space for my account

If you wish to increase or decrease the afs/web or e-mail space on your account you may do so by filling out an Add, Remove or Delete NetID Services Form.
