Overview

The Netprint service allows users to print to specific MSU printers from anywhere on campus or anywhere in the world (when connected through MSU SSL VPN). Follow the steps below to set up your Windows XP computer to use the Netprint service.

Once configuration is complete, follow the instructions on how to print using Netprint in the article Netprint: Introduction and Support Article List - TB14450 to use the service.

Step 1: Download and run the installer

Begin the installation:

  1. Browse to the XP Netprint Installer to access the file needed. Select Run or Open when prompted.
  2. Click through the prompts as needed to start the driver installation program.
  3. Click each Next button until the Configure Internet Port dialog window displays.

Step 2: Configure the New Port

When the Configure Internet Port dialog window displays:

  1. Click to select Use the specified user account.
  2. Enter your MSU NetID and password as the credentials.
  3. Click OK.

A configuration error message displays if you enter an incorrect NetID or password.

Click the Exit button when the confirmation dialog displays. Netprint Install 4

What do I do if Netprint installation fails?

If you have trouble installing Netprint, please try the following:

  1. Go to the Start menu and select Control Panel
  2. Select Printers and Faxes
  3. Click on the File menu and select Server Properties
  4. Select the Ports tab
  5. Highlight the entry labled "https://netprint.msu.edu:30443/printers/netprint"
  6. Click the Delete Port button and then click OK
  7. Repeat the installation steps.

How do I change my password for Netprint?

If you change your MSU NetID password you have to update your Netprint configuration with your new password, using the following steps:

  1. Go to the Start menu and select Control Panel
  2. Select Printers and Faxes
  3. Right click the MSU Netprint printer and select Properties
  4. Select the Ports tab
  5. Click Configure Port
  6. Enter your new password in the password field
  7. Click OK then click Close to exit
