Overview
Since Qualcomm (original manufacturer) no longer supports the Eudora e-mail client, the ATS Help Desk is unable to provide direct support for that product.This document will help you configure your compatible Eudora E-mail client to work with the mail.msu.edu system.
Compatible Eudora versions: 5.2.1 or greater
Compatible Windows versions: 98/2000/ME/XP
Note: This article is NOT applicable to version 8.X which is currently available as a beta version of software. That version is based on Thunderbird and configuration is completely different.

Step 1: Go to Options
Open Eudora. Select "Tools" and click on "Options."
Step 2: Getting Started Configuration
1. Select "Getting Started" from the left hand bar.2. Enter your name (ie: Joe Sparty) in the "Real name" field, if it is not there.
3. Enter your E-mail address (ie: sparty@msu.edu) in the "Return address" field.
4. Enter mail.msu.edu in the "Mail Server (Incoming)" field.
5. Enter your MSU NetID (ie: sparty) in the "Login Name" field.
6. Enter mail.msu.edu in the "SMTP Server (Outgoing)" field.
7. Make sure that "Allow authentication" is checked.

Step 3: Checking Mail Configuration
1. Select "Checking Mail" from the left hand bar.2. Verify that "mail.msu.edu" is in the "Mail Server" text box.
3. Verify that your MSU NetID is in the "Login Name" text box.
4. Verify that "Required, Alternate Port" is selected in the "Secure Sockets when Receiving" section.

Step 4: Incoming Mail Configuration
1. Select "Incoming Mail" from the left hand bar.2. Make sure "POP" is selected for "Server configuration."
3. It is recommended that you have the "Leave mail on server" and the "Delete from server when emptied from Trash" options checked, as this will allow you to check your mail from other locations and also keep your mail.msu.edu Inbox from getting too full.
4. Make sure the "Passwords" option is selected for "Authentication style."

Step 5: Sending Mail Configuration
1. Select "Sending Mail" from the left hand bar.2. Enter your E-mail address (ie: sparty@msu.edu) in the "Return address" field if it is not there.
3. Enter mail.msu.edu in the "SMTP server" field if it is not there.
4. In the drop down list for "Secure Sockets when Sending" make sure "Required, Alternate Port" is selected.

Step 6: Check your Mail
Click "Ok." You should now be able to send and receive mail.Changing/resetting your saved password
If you change the password for your MSU NetID, use the Forget Password option to also change the saved password within Eudora.Anti-spam options/Manufacturer technical support
Eudora users who feel they are getting a lot of junk mail are encouraged to upgrade to version 6.2, which now includes "ScamWatch" (combats "phishing" schemes which may lead to identity theft) and improved IMAP functionality, as well as previous features like "SpamWatch" (automatic junk/spam filtering). Refer to the following web pages for more information on Eudora: Note that some Eudora features are only available in "paid" or "sponsored" mode.To manually change the password in Eudora versions 5.x and 6.x
- Open Eudora and choose Special from the menu bar
- Select Change Password from the drop down box
- Supply your old password when prompted
- Enter and verify your new password when prompted
- Check mail to test your new email password
- Store your new email password in a secure location
