Overview
When a unit joins the MSU Campus Active Directory the standard global address book lists everyone on campus that is in the active directory. For many units it may be useful to configure a separate address book listing only personnel within the local Organizational Unit (OU).Note: Access to the central LDAP directory from off-campus requires the use of a VPN connection.
Open Outlook and open account settings
Open Outlook and select "Account Settings" from the File menu.
Create a new address book
Click on the Address Books Tab then click "New".
Select the option to configure an LDAP Address Book
Select the Internet Directory Service (LDAP) and then Click "Next"
Configure the Address Book Server Information
- Enter the following server information:
- Server Name: campusad.msu.edu,
- This server requires me to log on checkbox: Selected
- User Name and Password: CampusAD login credentials
- Require Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox: Selected
- Click the More Settings button. The informational message “You must restart Outlook for these changes to take effect.” displays.
- Click OK and proceed to the next step.
Configure Additional Settings
- On the Connection tab, enter the Display name for the organizational unit (OU) that you wish to search. (The example used here is "UGC" but you should enter the information that matches your organizational unit.)
- Click the Search tab.
Configure the Search Options
On the Search tab:
- Change the "Search Base" selection to Custom
- Enter the desired search critera in the form: OU=YourOrganizationalUnit,DC=campusad,DC=MSU,DC=EDU
- Check to select the "Enable Browsing" option.
- Click OK to save the settings.
- Click through the remaining prompts to restart Outlook.
Additional configuration for searching the full MSU public directory

From the "Home" menu, select "Address books". Then select "Options" under the "Tools" menu.
Changing your default Address Book - Step 2
Use the drop down menu from "When opening the address book, use this address book first" prompt to select the desired default address book.You can also use this same window to change the default search order of all of your address books when sending mail. Most users, however, will want to leave the first one set to "Global Address Book".
