Overview

This document will help you set up MSU ethernet access on your on-campus Macintosh computer running MacOS X 10.3.x Panther or 10.4.x Tiger.

Before you begin

You must already have a valid MSU NetID to use MSU ethernet access.

Step 1: Go to System Preferences

Click on the "Apple" pulldown menu from your desktop and click on "System Preferences."

Step 2: Go to the Network Menu

The "System Preferences" window should open. Select "Network."

Step 3: Network Configuration part 1

The "Network" window should open.
  1. Click the "Location" pulldown menu and select "Automatic." Alternatively, you can create a specific location (i.e., "MSU Ethernet") by selecting "New Location...".
  2. Click the "Show" pulldown menu and select "Built-in Ethernet."

Step 4: Network Configuration part 2

  1. If it's not selected, click the "Configure IPv4" pulldown menu and select "Using DHCP."
  2. In the "Search Domains" text box, type msu.edu and press Return.
Verify the Network window looks similar to this, then close the Network window; click "Apply" if prompted:
